The war came to Australia in 1942 when Japanese forces in the Pacific overran British and Commonwealth forces in Malaya and Singapore and invaded New Guinea. Darwin and Northern Australia were repeatedly bombed while Sydney and Newcastle were also attacked.
Along the Kokoda Trail and at Milne Bay, Australian forces blunted the Japanese offensive in Papua. From 1943 to 1945 Australians fought in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, and were fighting in Borneo when the Japanese ultimately surrendered in 1945.
Reverse combines elements of all Pacific Ocean battles into a design and highlights the many aspects of the Second World War. Produced in collaboration with the Australian War Memorial. Uncirculated colour printed coin on a presentation card.
Part of the Australia at War series, which features 18 coins that reflect the nation’s pride in our brave servicemen and women.
