The Purple Penny’s Personal Coin Storage Recommendations -From The Collector
Question:
Gday, just want to check out the sleeves, its good to see a seller who seems to be honest about selling pvc free coin storage equipment… i spent alot on holders and sleeves that contain harmful chemicals so now i’ve got to try rectifying this. Any advice on who to look at for other PVC free items such as 2×2 holders and capsules as i notice you only sell the sleeves. Kind Regards eBay buyer
Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your questions. Yes we currently only sell polypropylene albums and pages that my partner and I have had made for ourselves. We found ourselves in the same position as you are and realised there wasn’t a suitable product on the market so we sourced a solution and here we are.
There is tonnes of useful information that we have written about storage solutions here:
www.australian-coins.com
There’s a whole section of the blog on storing your collection in the categories list down the left hand side.
It depends on what you have to house and how you want it displayed as to the right solution for you. Personally for my bulk collection I use staple cardboard 2×2’s (never adhesive ones) in The Purple Penny polypropylene pages inside The Purple Penny polypropylene albums. You can get a låne penger if you cannot afford rare coins. I also have some 2 inch Saflips and I am currently researching options for heat sealing these to make them airtight. They slip into the 2×2 pages perfectly instead of cardboard 2×2’s. Other safe options are Eagle mounts or (foam ring type) Air tite capsules some of which I have.
For high value coins I lean towards slabbed coins particularly by PCGS because of the guarantee of a genuine coin, guarantee of the coin not having been cleaned and a place to start with regards to grading.
For the housing of banknotes and mintmark dollar folders I use the Lighthouse Vario pages (2c, 3c or 4c). These are made from polypropylene. I have to get out the hole punch and rehole the pages to fit albums as the precut holes aren’t round.
There are hard plastic pages available made from HDPE (a safe plastic) which I store the Airtite capsules and the slabbed coins.
Now I am beginning to think I have too many coins!!
I hope I have helped you with determining the right storage solution for your prized collection.
Regards,
The Purple Penny

Christmas Wishes and Mail Delays Over The Holiday Period
Wishing our coin friends and valued customers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Please be safe if you’re on the roads.
Australia Post mail for the upcoming weeks is Wed 24th, Mon 29th-Wed 31st after which no mail will be processed until Monday 5th January.
2014 100 Years of ANZAC AL Countertamp Dollars
We’ve just received our stock of AL counterstamped 100 years of ANZAC dollar coins. Originally the Mint said that you had to attend the Royal Australian Mint stand during ANZAC Albany celebrations to purchase these coins. Because of this we organised a trooper friend to pick up some coins for us and subsequently they have travelled by road across the country and then halfway back to Adelaide! Then…the Mint advised of a dealer allocation of these coins. But since we aren’t RAM dealers this was the only way we’d secure coins for our customers. We have limited stock and they are proving popular so get in quick!
New-Look Coin Album Pages
We have recently negotiated with our 20 pocket coin page supplier to manufacture our pages in a clearer plastic. We hope this new stock meets well with our customers. It’s being sent out from today so all new orders will receive the new-look pages.
Shop Closure
We’re closed from October 1st-5th 2014. All emails and orders will be attended to upon our return to the office. To secure a coin please place your order and we’ll contact you once we reopen. Thank you for your patience.
Coin Fair In Adelaide
This coming weekend we’ll be attending a fair in the Drill Hall at the Torrens Parade Ground on Victoria Drive (off King William Road) in Adelaide. Saturday 3rd – Sunday 4th May 2014 10am-4pm. The fair will host other dealers selling and buying coins, stamps, banknotes and postcards. If there’s any of our offerings that you’d like to see in hand, please just drop us an email beforehand to ensure we bring that item along with us. There’s plenty of free parking and free entry so we hope to see you there!
Thank You For Your Understanding While We Have a Short Break
We’ll be CLOSED from 5th April until 15th April. We won’t be responding to any emails or orders until we return. Feel free to place your order as this will secure the coin for you, but we will not respond or process that order until April 15th. Make offer or product enquiries will not secure the coin as yours. Thank you for your understanding.
