This medal was awarded to soldiers of Hesse-Kassel who fought the forces of Napolean in 1814-1815. It is made from bronze from captured French cannons, similar to the legendary Victoria Cross. Edge is lettered “aus erobertem gescütz”. Note that the ball mount has broken off and the medal is in generally poor condition. Still a scarce item and a relic of the Napoleonic Wars.
