C1867/1 47mm, 38 grams white metal. Medal issued to commemorate the visit of Prince Alfred to Australia in 1867. Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria’s second son, was Australia’s first royal visitor. Arriving in 1867, he stayed for six months. Depicts the HMS Galatea, a Royal Navy frigate that he commanded for a world tour that included Australia.
