The ramstrike or high lip coin error is one of the more spectacular of the collar errors. This coin is a partial collar but when it has a high lip like we see here Australians have coined the term “ramstrike” to identify this error type. The planchet didn’t engage in the collar die completely when the coin was struck resulting in no collar from 10 o’clock to 5 o’clock (reverse view) and the rest of the coin jammed in the collar so hard that planchet metal smooged upwards creating the prominent high lip.
