Struck specifically for circulation in Australia, the 1827 penny is a rare date and usually found in well-circulated and corroded condition. It is believed that the coins were corroded while in storage in saltwater-affected wooden crates before shipping out of England.
This is a very collectable example of a classic Australian colonial rarity with a clear portrait. It was found in Tasmania. Some obverse rim damage.
