Lysimachus AR Tetradrachm. 288BC-281BC. Thompson 199. Amphipolis.
Posthumous Alexander the Great tetradrachm struck in Amphipolis in Thrace. Lysimachus was a trusted general of Alexander the Great and was appointed to oversee Thrace by Alexander himself. Upon Alexander’s death in 323BC Lysimachus assumed kingship of Thrace. Amphipolis was an ancient Greek city whose ruins can be found in the north east of modern day Greece.
